Welcome
Aboard
This site will be of interest to the tug
enthusiast and anyone who may have a passing interest in tugs of the Thames
and Medway, also meteorology and local weather conditions.
New
I have opened a
TUGGIES
photo gallery to run in conjunction with The Riverman which I hope will give
visitors the opportunity to interact with the site. The picture gallery is two
categories a view only gallery where you may post comments or information on
individual pictures, and, a users upload gallery where users may post their own
pictures with comments. Before uploading pictures in the gallery you will be
required to register. Registering will take about two minutes, is FREE and once
registered you are under no obligation.
There
is a page JP
Knight which is a picture history of the local tug company J. P.
Knight showing photographs of most of their tugs from 1892 until 1991 when they
ceased operations on the Thames and Medway.
I have included a page for the South Eastern Tug Society which is my personal
tribute to the crew who have worked very hard restoring the tug
KENT to a presentable working example of a tug of her era.
( I crewed on the KENT in the early sixties.)
The
Tug Funnels page is an attempt to show the
logo's that tug owners have used over the last 100+ years to identify their
vessels. Information for the early years is not readily available so the list is
far from complete. It will be updated as information becomes available.
The
Weather page is my personal weather station. The equipment
to run the station was presented to me as retirement gift from the company and
colleagues I worked with. At present it is working as a basic weather station
giving current local weather which is updated every 15 minutes and live weather
updated every 5 seconds. The software programme is complex and is capable of a
lot more configurations.
The
Links page contains lots of links relating
to the towage industry, enough to keep a tug anorak occupied for hours, there
are also links to weather related sites.
In June 2002 I retired from work as a tuggy ( 45 years of chugging up and down
the Medway on various tugs ) an occupation I have enjoyed and wi ll probably
miss.

Three of the tugs I have served on
as master in latter years................
-
Left................LADY MADELEINE.............(Now
based at Southampton)
-
Centre............LADY BRENDA..................(Sheerness)
-
Right..............LADY
MORAG....................(Sheerness)
This site was created to occupy my spare time (what spare time) and
keep me in touch with ex colleagues and fellow tugmen that I have
known and worked with over the past 45 years.
